Big 12’s Best Ready to Shine in Fort WorthPublished by Big 12 on May 12th, 2016 Championship Central The Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship is being run this weekend, May 13-15 from TCU’s Lowdon Track & Field Complex in Fort Worth, Texas. The meet is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in the country. On the men’s side, four teams enter the meet ranked in the USTFCCCA’s National Top 25. The Texas Longhorns check in at No. 5, Texas Tech at No. 8, Kansas at No. 23 and TCU at No. 24. The women’s side is loaded with six ranked teams: No. 5 Texas, No. 9 Kansas State, No. 15 Oklahoma, No. 18 Oklahoma State, No. 19 Texas Tech and No. 20 Baylor. The Big 12’s six ranked squads are the second most of any conference.
In 2015, the Texas swept the outdoor championship, with the women claiming their ninth Big 12 title (1997, ‘98, ‘99, 2003, ‘04, ‘06, ‘12, ‘14, ‘15) and the men their sixth (1997, ‘99, 2003, ‘06, ‘13, ‘15). With the Longhorns’ sweep in the 2015 indoor championship as well, it marked the first time since 2006 that a school has completed a “season sweep.”
